COMTO National is staffed by a team of professionals who are committed to the mission and vision of the organization. They are supported by volunteer board members who are among their professions’ most respected and experienced leaders.
PRESIDENT & CEO
A. Bradley Mims
A. Bradley Mims serves as President and CEO of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for minority professionals and businesses in the transportation and infrastructure industry.
Mr. Mims has served as a transportation professional in government and the private sector for over forty years. As a government relations specialist with a multi modal transportation background, Mims holds a special affinity for the entire transportation industry.
From 2013 to 2016, Mr. Mims served as transportation and infrastructure senior advisor to the Mid-Atlantic Laborers’ Employers Cooperation and Education Trust (LECET), a group committed to advocating the mutual interests of Labor and Management in the transportation and infrastructure construction sector. He provided workforce development, legislative, state and federal government and transportation-industry government affairs, and business consulting to the organization.
Previously, Mr. Mims served as Vice President – Aviation Market Leader for Parsons Brinckerhoff and as Senior Associate for the Transportation Group at Booz/Allen/Hamilton. He also served in the Clinton Administration at the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration, as Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs, and Assistant Administrator for Government and Industry Affairs respectively.
Mr. Mims served as Congressional Liaison for the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum and the National African American Museum. Mr. Mims served as staff on Capitol Hill for more than 12 years as transportation staffer to Members of Congress including: Congressman John Lewis of Georgia and Julian Dixon of California.
Mr. Mims holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Allegheny College. Mr. Mims serves on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, appointed by the Governor of Maryland in 2014. Mr. Mims is a former member of the Board of Directors and Legislative Advisor to COMTO, a current Member of the Board of the Central Maryland Regional Transportation Authority, former member of the Board of Directors for the Airport Consultants Council, and former Board Member of the Maryland Transportation Authority MDTA.
CHIEF OF STAFF
Tara McDaniel began her career in Washington, D.C. as Staff Assistant to Congressman John Lewis (D-GA). She then went on to serve in the House Majority Whip Office as a Chief Deputy Majority Whip Executive Assistant. Tara then served as Legislative Assistant for the National Women’s Business Council at the US Small Business Administration and Director of Member and Financial Services for the DC-based Executive Leadership Council.
Tara relocated to Dallas where she served as the Director of the Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Business Development Center, assisting and advocating for small and minority-owned businesses. She then transitioned into the transportation industry and served as public relations manager and spokesperson for the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and then primary spokesperson for American Airlines.
Tara returned to the Washington metropolitan area to join the public relations team at Sodexo, a Global 100 food and facilities management company. During her time there, she served in various roles in public relations, media and internal/external communications. As Senior Director of communications, she was responsible for communications for nearly 2500 managers and 55,000 frontline employees. Tara was also on the team that developed Sodexo’s largest minority-owned business partnership, SodexoMAGIC, a joint venture with Magic Johnson Enterprises. Tara then served as Vice President of Communications for Asbury Communities where she led the team responsible for media relations and communications for eight senior living communities as well as The Asbury Group, an IT and Marketing firm.
In October 2018, Tara was named Chief of Staff of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials, a non-profit advocacy organization for minorities in the transportation industry. Tara holds a B.A. in Political Science from Hampton University and an Executive Leadership Management Certificate from Cornell University. Tara is a resident of Montgomery County, MD and served on the Board of Directors of the Manna Food Bank for six years. She is a proud member of the Leadership Montgomery (MD) Class of 2014.
Melissa Dent has over 35 years of experience in Accounting and Finance. Her vast experience includes executive positions as Senior Internal/External Auditor, CFO, V.P. of Finance and Senior Business Consultant in the public accounting, federal and state governments, corporate, banking and non-profit sectors. Melissa is a Certified Public Accountant and received her B.S. degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
As Financial Manager, she leads the processes for financial forecasting and budgets, and oversees the preparation of all financial reporting, provides strategic recommendations to the CEO/president and members of the executive management team, and establishes and develops relationships with senior management and external partners and stakeholders.
Mariah Stanley has over 10 years of experience in the transportation industry with extensive Institutional and Youth and Student Outreach project portfolios as well as experience managing early career and mid-level manager, complex multi-use workforce development programs in the areas of Diversity and Inclusion. She is skilled in nonprofit management, government contracting, team building, business writing, and fundraising.
She began her career as an Assistant Program Manager and evolved into positions in the areas of Educational Services, Workforce Development, Human Resources and Communications for notable non-profits, transportation organizations and firms. Working in both the transportation non-profit sector and construction environments, Mariah has a vast understanding of workforce needs in the industry and on major transportation projects.
In her role as Program Manager at COMTO, Mariah fosters an environment of teamwork and ensures that strategy is clearly defined while overseeing programs and maintaining corporate partnerships. Her strong communication and client service skills enhance COMTO’s mission to ensure a level playing field for minorities in the transportation industry.
Mariah is a strong media and communications professional with a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) focused in Business/Corporate Communications from Trinity Washington University. She received her Bachelor of Communications from Trinity University. She also previously worked at COMTO, during her undergraduate years as the Special Assistant to the former President & CEO, Julie Cunningham.
MEMBERSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
Gatwiri Muthara has more than 20 years of experience in marketing and public relations for global corporations, non-profit organizations and membership associations. She is skilled in internal communications, public relations, news writing and reporting, social media, video production, web content management, marketing, business development and events in the non-profit, corporate and federal sectors.
COMTO CITY INTERNSHIP ALUMNUS
Dante Flood is an enthusiastic supporter of COMTO’s mission and vision. A COMTO CITY Internship alumnus, he assisted in the coordination of COMTO’s 43rd, 44th, and 45th annual National Conference gaining valuable insight into the efficient running of the organization. After graduating in 2018 from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology and Graphic Design, Dante put his skills to work at the COMTO National office as a Membership Coordinator. He currently assists the Membership Manager with any requests and inquiries individuals have in regards to membership updates, renewals, and applications.
