COMTO Webinar: Media Representation and Implications for Black America

Overview

Conversations on race are at an all time high during this time of the #BlackLivesMatter movement. At COMTO, we started our own discussion on race at our Town Hall on Race webinar last month and will continue these conversations. Please join us as we take a deeper dive into the media’s impact on how Black people are portrayed and how that narrative enters into everyday life.

Speaker: Akisa Omulepu, Emmy Nominated Documentarian, Director and Producer

Akisa Omulepu is an Emmy nominated documentarian, director and producer. Her work focuses on narratives about the global Black experience. Most recently she directed and produced a docuseries for PBS; ‘A Dream Deferred: The Broken Promise of New York City Public Housing.’ Ms. Omulepu lived in Nairobi, Kenya as a foreign correspondent and was on the production team covering the Westgate Mall terror attack for NBC Nightly News. Ms. Omulepu earned her bachelor’s degree in economics from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, a graduate degree in journalism from Columbia University and is a Yale World Fellow. She’s also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
