Noted Education Leader, STEM Advocate and DEI Expert Joins Organization Dedicated to Advancing Minorities in Transportation
COMTO National is pleased to announce Dr. Gwendolyn E. Boyd as Interim President & CEO. Dr. Boyd is an executive leader in higher education especially in the areas related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). She has more than 33 years of experience in mechanical engineering with specific expertise in acoustics submarine navigation systems analysis at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. While there, Dr. Boyd was an executive leader in engineering, diversity, inclusion and equity leadership. She most recently served as President of Alabama State University.
As Interim President & CEO, Dr. Boyd will provide general administration and management oversight of the organization under the direction of the Chair of the Board and the Board of Directors. She will provide strategic leadership and guidance and is responsible for the overall performance and organizational effectiveness of COMTO.
“Dr. Boyd’s exemplary background as an executive leader in education, STEM and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are a perfect fit for COMTO,” said Freddie Fuller, National Chair, COMTO National Board of Directors. “As we go through this transition period, Dr. Boyd will oversee the day-to-day management of the organization, working alongside the Board of Directors, Council of Presidents and national staff to help us to continue making strides in the transportation industry and the communities we serve.”
“In addition, we’d like to thank Dr. Boyd’s predecessor, Tara McDaniel, for her hard work and dedication to COMTO for the past three years and for agreeing to lead the organization through this transitional period. We wish her good luck as she continues her future endeavors in the transportation industry,” said Fuller.
Dr. Boyd is also an ordained minister with a Doctorate in Ministry from Howard University. She completed her Master’s in Divinity from Howard University as well. Dr. Boyd has a Master of Science degree with a concentration in mechanical engineering from Yale University. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in mathematics at Alabama State University. She also attended Harvard University’s Summer Seminar for New College Presidents.
Dr. Boyd lives in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and will be based out of COMTO National headquarters in Alexandria, VA.
